The concept of 'Smart Home', which has been on the agenda for years, has started to gain momentum again with the spread of internet of things (IoT) applications. Most of the white goods and consumer electronics manufacturers now have smart home platforms. Security companies, telecommunication companies produce new solutions every day. 'Smart Assistants', which look like they came out of sci-fi movies, started to come out one by one and are being used more and more every day.
But most people do not know enough
about practical applications. Therefore, we cannot say that this concept has
not received enough attention yet. Some examples of smart home application:
·
The degrees of the combi boiler and air conditioner can be
adjusted automatically according to factors such as the temperature of the
inside and outside of the house, the amount of daylight, and the time you are
at home. In fact, there are already learning systems that start to make
automatic settings by learning the settings you make manually over time.
·
Curtains can be lowered, water and gas valves can be closed while you are
not at home.
·
By recognizing the person who came to the
house, the messages left can be read, the preferred lighting settings, as well
as the music and television channels can be opened automatically.
·
While working in the office, you can see the
inside of your refrigerator and make a shopping decision.
·
You can cook meals that will be ready when you
come home by controlling the oven and stove remotely.
·
As soon as you get home, you can automatically
start washing your clothes.
·
The lighting inside the house can follow you
between the rooms, and the indoor light intensity can be kept constant by
detecting the cloud/sun, day/night differences in the outside environment.
·
When there is gas leakage, carbon monoxide,
fire, smoke, flood, security violations, you can instantly send a message and
photo to your mobile phone. You can also get live view by connecting to the
house.
·
Lights and television can be switched on and
off randomly when no one is home to deter thieves. You can control all the
lightings from where you sit, even when you are at home.
·
With your multi-time tariff electricity meter,
high power works can be done automatically at cheap hours at night, energy can
be stored in batteries and used in expensive hours.
·
Your plants at home and irrigation systems in
your garden can be controlled automatically or by remote control. You can
automatically give your pets water and food by connecting from your smart phone
on holiday.
·
You can watch the washing machine and
dishwasher on the television screen and get a warning when it is finished.
It
seems inevitable that such applications will become widespread in the near
future, thanks to increasingly easier access to information and developing
devices.
